Awareness Day

LGMD Awareness Day – 30 September 2025

Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy (LGMD) Awareness Day is observed annually on 30 September to raise awareness about LGMD, a group of genetic neuromuscular disorders that cause progressive weakness in the muscles around the shoulders and hips. This global event brings together patients, caregivers, researchers, and advocates to highlight the challenges faced by individuals living with LGMD and to promote research, early diagnosis, and support systems.

Objectives of LGMD Awareness Day:

Raise Public Awareness: Educate communities about LGMD, its symptoms, and the impact on individuals and families.

Support Advocacy Efforts: Encourage policies and programs that improve healthcare, research, and accessibility for people with LGMD.

Promote Research & Treatment: Highlight the need for further scientific research and potential treatments.

Encourage Community Engagement: Bring together patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and organizations to create a supportive network.

How to Participate:

Share awareness materials on social media using #LGMDawareness.

Organize or attend local events, webinars, or discussion panels.

Wear green, the color associated with LGMD awareness.

Support organizations working on LGMD research and patient support.

Muscular Dystrophy Pakistan will be leading the awareness efforts in Pakistan, ensuring that the voices of those living with LGMD are heard. Join us in spreading awareness and advocating for a better future for people with LGMD!
